The address is 4420 S. Noland Road in Independence..in the shopping center behind Fuddruckers. The name of the youth center is The Spot and there is a sign on the building. It used to be a Discovery Zone building years ago.
Special Teen Connections is for students ages 13-21, although we now have some who are 22-25. This social is open to anyone with special needs, and is wheelchair accessible. We used to allow siblings, too, but we soon found that they tended to take over the games which left those with special needs standing around with nothing to do. This evening is set aside specifically for our challenged kids to feel like they're having a night out on the town!
Our goal is for our volunteers to spend individual time with the kids, as well as group time to work on those social skills. We offer basketball, ping pong, pool, board games, and even karaoke. It's from 7-9pm every 2nd Saturday. Parents are welcome to stay and play, or can leave their kids.
Special Connections is our Sunday school class, and that's for teens and adults of all ages. I assumed that you couldn't advertise that for us since it's church-related, but you might know someone who might be interested.
